The test that helps you pastor more effectively.

Most modern pastors have taken some type of personality test. Shepherd. Preacher. Leader. is the test written by pastors for pastors. This simple profile reveals how you currently pastor your church through three unique roles: Shepherd, Preacher, Leader.

  • a person charged with the spiritual guidance of Christians. Tasked by God to relationally challenge people, care for them, and help them grow in Christ.

  • a person who accurately instructs the truth of God’s word in a way that is caring, convicting, challenging, compelling, and clear.

  • a person who serves others by setting an example, establishing core values, casting vision, managing resources, building a team, developing systems, and training and motivating others toward the end of a mission.

  • See your personal ministry strengths and weaknesses.

  • Evaluate your church’s strengths and weaknesses.

  • Develop a game-plan to pastor more effectively.

“A Christian minister has three basic roles or functions - preaching, pastoring/counseling, and leading.

No one is equally gifted in all three areas, and yet we must do them all.” - Tim Keller

Have you ever…

Felt bad about dreading that upcoming premarital counseling session?

Wondered if you should be in ministry since you don’t love preaching on Sunday morning?

Felt convicted that you were more excited about a leadership team meeting than a Bible study?

As an L-P-S, I’ve had to work hard to make sure that I don’t neglect the important role of shepherding my flock. My natural tendencies to L-P aren’t an excuse to ignore the tasks of counseling, one-on-one discipleship, and the other tasks of shepherding. Writing this test and evaluating my ministry through this lens has helped me grow as a pastor and more effectively pastor as Christ did. I hope it will do the same for you.
